Reticle
One of the stand-out features of the Holosun 507K X2 is the multiple reticle system.
This can be set to a single 2 MOA red dot, a 32 MOA circle, or both of the reticles combined. Similar to what you would normally see on an EOTech.
So if you like the EOTech reticle and are familiar with that system, you will love the Holosun 507K.
This reticle allows you to customize it for different scenarios.
If you are shooting close range you can use the circle reticle, if you want to take more precise shots or even at a distance, then the single dot comes in handy.
For the best of both worlds, use the combination reticle for speed and accuracy.
The brightness is satisfactory and I had no problem seeing the red dot even in direct sunlight.
Switching reticles is simple, all you do is hold down the – button for 3 seconds and this activates the reticle cycle mode. By pressing the button again you will be able to cycle through them.
Size
I’m amazed at how small modern pistol optics are getting and the Holosun 507K X2 is one of the smallest.
It isn’t too small where you can see through the window. I would say it’s just right, any smaller and it would be very difficult to use.
The window dimensions are 0.58″ x 0.77″.
You truly won’t believe how small this really is until you hold one in your hand or look through one mounted on a gun.
The dot is still found without searching, but the circle red dot is even quicker.
If you are brand new to pistol red dots, this will take some getting used to. With practice and experience, searching for the dot will become quicker and quicker.
Construction
Pistol red dots take extra abuse being that they are mounted on the slide. The contrast jolt every shot can take its toll on optics.
The Holosun 507K is very well-built.
It is made of 7075 aluminum and specifically designed for pistols, so the internal electronics are built with this in mind.
The glass is scratch-resistant and the housing is made to protect the glass and the LED emitter.
The battery storage compartment closes up tight with no movement or play.
Overall the construction is top notch and this is a very durable red dot that should last a long time.
Battery
The side battery access is what all pistol optics need to move to. The last thing you want to do is to remove the sight and lose your zero.
So good on Holosun for adding this feature.
Replacing the battery is simple with the right tools and Holosun includes the Allen Key in the box.
The 507K runs on a single CR1632 battery and is advertised as 50,000 hours. This will depend on conditions and storage. Also what brightness setting you leave it on.
Expect at least one year of real-world use and I recommend replacing the batteries of all your optics once a year regardless of battery life.
When testing I removed the battery several times to see if my zero would shift. No issues with this.
User Friendly
The mounting system is versatile. This optic uses the Shield RMS footprint allowing you to mount this to many popular pistols.
When drawing your gun in a self-defense situation, you most likely will not have time to turn on your red dot. This is where the “shake-awake” function is priceless.
Replacing the battery is simple and quick as I mentioned earlier.
The buttons are small but still accessible and easy to use with good feedback when pressing them.
This optic is intuitive and simple to use. For anyone looking for a red dot on a self-defense pistol, simple and reliable is key.
For the price, you get everything you would expect.
