Aimpoint ACRO P2 Review
This is my Aimpoint ACRO P2 Review.
These optics were hard to come by for a while, but because of having access to a distributor, I was able to get my hands on one.
I was extremely excited to test out this red dot and do a full in-depth review of my experience with using it.
My results may surprise you!
This post will review all aspects of the Aimpoint ACRO P2.
Aimpoint ACRO P2 Review
Aimpoint is one of the top dogs when it comes to weapon sights. The military has had contracts with Aimpoint for decades now and the company has built its reputation as being the best and most reliable red dot sights.
I was ready to put them to the test with their new ACRO P2.
Aimpoint takes its ACRO reflex sight to the next level with the ACRO P-2.
This is a micro red dot sight that is designed to be used on pistols. This will also work as a backup 1x sight on a general-purpose rifle that uses a scope or a fixed magnified optic as its primary weapon sight.
I tested the ACRO P2 in both roles to see how it performed.
This is a unique red dot sight because of how small it is and the enclosed design.
These were initially released a couple of years ago but they were hard to get because of demand and short availability.
Now they are easier to get and you will start seeing them at local gun stores and big box brand stores.

Pros and Cons
What’s In the Box?
Here is everything you get in the box with the Aimpoint ACRO P2:
- ACRO P2 Red Dot Sight
- Foamed interior card box
- T10 tool for mounting and adjustments
- Owners manual
- Stickers
- Battery Installed
- Warranty registration card
Companies that put effort into the packaging and presentation is a nice touch. At the end of the day you’re paying for the product itself, but taking pride in the package and presentation goes a long way to me.
First Impressions
Taking this out of the box, it felt nice, and you could tell it was very well made. The housing felt substantial, and nothing cheap about it.
The buttons seem well protected and robust, and the same with the battery compartment, which is located on the left side of the optic.
Looking to the right side and on top are the adjustment knobs for zeroing. They have a recessed design for protection and the screw insert to adjust is almost like a snap ring pliers setup.
The included tool will allow you to mount and also adjust the windage and elevation turrets.
Looking through it looks like a true 1x with no fishbowl effect or lens distortion—very clear and well done Aimpoint.
The dot is bright and is an actual daylight bright red dot.
I’m pleased they changed the battery type and compartment location. The P2 is the CR2032 battery that can be replaced without having to remove the whole optic.
This was the major change to the newer P2 version. Also, the battery life has been greatly improved.
So far, everything looks good, and I like the ACRO P2.
Aimpoint ACRO-P2 Overview
This advanced micro red dot sight is equipped with several design features to ensure its durability, reliability, and versatility surpass typical duty requirements.
It utilizes a fully enclosed design, making it impossible for rain, mud, dust, and other debris to enter the optical channel and interfere with the path between the LED emitter and the reflective lens.
This enclosed design also seals the electronic components into the body, eliminating the threat of water damage.
The ACRO P-2 features hardened front and rear glass lenses to better protect the internals, and the sight will remain completely functional even if these protective lenses are shattered.
To confirm the ACRO P-2 could stand up to heavy recoil, Aimpoint tested it using 20,000 rounds of full power .40 S&W which generates nearly twice the G-force level of 9mm.
Its ability to stand up to the heavy recoil of .40 caliber ensures the ACRO P-2 can endure the most punishing shock, vibration, and material stress that a semiautomatic service pistol can inflict.
Here is the quick info and technical details on the Aimpoint ACRO P2.
There is only one version of this sight and it’s a 3.5 MOA dot size. This is a good all-around size for a red dot.

- Specifications
The main thing that most people will choose this red dot for is the enclosed emitter and the durability.
Reticle
I have no complaints about the dot itself. I normally wear glasses and have astigmatism.
Red dots have a tendency to be blurry for me and the dot on the ACRO P2 was crystal clear.
I was very impressed with how bright it was too. I could still see the dot even when looking in the direction of the sun and on multiple light backgrounds.
Even transitioning from light to dark and dark to light the dot seemed to stay in focus without my eye adjusting.
On the highest brightness setting, there was no washout of the dot.
The dot works perfectly and I have no complaints about the reticle.
Size
The ACRO P2 isn’t the smallest red dot in the pistol red dot category and is actually somewhat larger than most because of the mailbox design.
This makes the optic square and blocky by design and there is no way around this.
But after using this optic for some time now, the optic is still small enough to be on a concealed carry pistol and still a good usable size to be on a rifle as a backup.
The borders of the optic do stand out more because of the aluminum housing so this can be unpleasant if you are used to a small border optic.
Because this is intended for speed and reliability, it works just fine up close.
The weight wasn’t an issue but I did notice it more than my Holosun EPS Carry. So if you are trying to stay as lightweight as possible the ACRO P2 weighs double that of some of its competitors.
Construction
This optic is overbuilt. To start with the enclosure. The LED emitter is completely enclosed and protected.
This will ensure it works in all conditions and environments. Rain, dirt, sand, and dust will not obscure the LED red dot.
The windage and elevation adjustment knobs are flush with the house and don’t have any material that protrudes.
Because of this, the ACRO P2 has a flat profile and nothing for it to snag on besides the front of the optic itself.
The mounting mechanism locks up tight and there was no play at all when mounted on my pistol and also when I used this on a rifle.
It’s completely protected from the elements and the internal hardware is safe from the elements.
Everything is tight and flush fit, with o-rings around all the moving parts.
The ACRO P2 has four lenses of the glass. A protective layer and a tinted layer.
So if the outside glass gets damaged or scratched, the optic is still protected.
The downside is if you do not have a Torx tool or the adjustment tool, a knife or a screwdriver will not work.
Battery
Aimpoints are known for great battery life and 5 years is no joke. I haven’t had this optic for that long so really can’t test this. I also have the habit of changing out batteries once a year.
I had no issues with the battery compartment or any contact issues. No flickering of the dot and it’s as bright as ever.
The battery sits in very tight and because it’s mounted on the side, you do not have to worry about recoil affecting the connections.
It does give me a piece of mind, knowing I can leave this on and not have to worry about the battery dying.
Also, if it’s always ready to go.
You’re getting an excellent battery life on this red dot.
Holding down the “-” button for 2 seconds shuts the optic off and hitting the “+” button turns it on.
Ergonomics
The shape of the ACRO P2 is different from most other pistol red dots. Aimpoint is innovating with this mailbox design though.
The biggest issue with traditional pistol red dot sights is that they are exposed. So they need to be clean and protected in a holster or else the red dot can be obstructed or blurred.
Some may not like how big the ACRO P2 is on a pistol but in my use, this wasn’t a issue. Even for concealed carry it fits great.
The 2 button layout is simple, and everything is user-friendly. The adjustments to windage and elevation are made in 1 MOA increments.
You won’t be making precision shots at a distance but this works just fine for a pistol.
Even on a rifle, the quick transition to the ACRO P2 felt good.

My Experience
After using the ACRO P2 extensively for the past few months on my Glock and briefly on my rifle, I will say it’s a great red dot.
Its housing is indestructible and feels like a true battle optic.
The ACRO is small and light with a simple yet protected design. You won’t have to worry about any issues with it malfunctioning and can really depend on it to work when you need it to.
If you think you don’t need an optic that is failproof and expensive, you can definitely get one that good and half the price.
For the person who wants the “best red dot” on their pistol, the ACRO will be that red dot.
It is a larger optic though and is concealable but not as easily as a smaller pistol red dot. Maybe it is best suited as a self-defense pistol.
As far as a backup rifle sight, it also works perfectly. It’s small and solid, ready for combat.
I always felt like the ACRO P2 was dependable and didn’t have to worry about babying it.
Mounting
My setup was mainly my Glock 19 with this mounted on a forward controls plate. It looked heavier than it was but I did notice it.
I used the included T10 tool and was able to install this without any issues.
Locked up tight and felt solid.
Zeroing
I got this zeroed in at 10 yards only using a few mags. After shooting hundreds of rounds it was still zeroed and nothing shifted.
The turrets felt good and had a normal amount of detent—no issues with zeroing.
Shooting
This optic is a workhorse, and I had plenty of range time with it. It was great looking through the glass, and I was able to shoot quickly and accurately.
The border wasn’t too big, and the dot size was easily identified.
My eye was drawn to the center, and I was very impressed.
Final Thoughts
If you want the absolute best red dot for reliability and simplicity, this is for you. Just know that it’s expensive and blocky on a pistol.
For me, it worked flawlessly, and now I am very happy with the ACRO P2. In my experience, it is well worth the money.
You know what you are getting, and that’s a very well-built piece of equipment that you can rely on working when you need it to.
Besides a good pistol optic, it also performs great on rifles as a backup sight and on shotguns.
If you want to consider a less expensive option for a red dot but still want something good, check out my Holosun EPS Carry Review.

Our Take
This is a trustworthy sight with robust durability. It’s rugged, well-made, lightweight, and super clear with no distortion. The battery life is insane and provides cover 5 years on constant on operation. The window is enclosed to protect the emitter and it has been tested and proven to handle extreme shock, vibration, and temperatures.
