Glock Trigger Upgrades
The standard trigger that comes with any Glock isn’t bad but it isn’t good either. It’s just okay and leaves a lot of room for improvement.
Because of the popularity of the Glock platform, there are a lot of different options to choose from.
You can install most of the Glock trigger upgrades yourself without the help of a gunsmith. Just need basic tools and some patience.
If you have never used an upgraded trigger then you are missing out. A better trigger will make a huge difference in your accuracy.
There are three different trigger companies that I have used and recommend:
- Apex
- Timney
- Zev
Apex Tactical Trigger Kit
One of the best Glock trigger upgrades available is the Apex Tactical Trigger Kit for the Glock.
It has a very crisp and smooth pull and also decreases the pull weight of the factory trigger.
I have used this exact trigger in many of my own personal firearms and you can’t beat the quality and performance.
They are fairly priced and installation is easy if you have the correct tools and some basic knowledge of guns.
A certified gunsmith will also be able to install this kit if you don’t want the headache of messing with it.
This trigger still uses a split trigger safety design just like the original. The difference between the stock Glock trigger is night and day.

One of the absolute best trigger kits is the ZEV Technologies Fulcrum Trigger Kit.

Weapon Lights
You can’t shoot what you cant see. Having a good quality weapon light is essential for any serious defense pistol.
Most self-defense situations occur at night and being able to properly identify your target is key.
The last thing you want is friendly fire.
There are three light brands that I recommend for the Glock:
- Surefire
- Streamlight
- Inforce
Surefire X300
TheSurefire X300 is considered the gold standard when it comes to weapon lights. I own a few of these and believe they are the best.
These lights will emit 1000 lumens of bright light on a fresh battery.
They are very reliable and robust and use an ambidextrous switch for both right-handed and left-handed shooters.
Because of their popularity, most holster companies make specific holsters that will accommodate the Surefire X300.
Holster options will save you from frustration down the road.
This is the “B” model and the one that I recommend. It uses a mounting screw that is more solid compared to the wing nut.

Streamlight TLR-1 HL
The next light option is the Streamlight TLR-1 HL. This is the direct competitor to the Surefire X300 and comes down to personal preference and looks.
The brightness is powerful and this light balances perfectly on the Glock. Some people prefer this light because the glass does not stick out past the muzzle.

Inforce Wild 2
One of the newest lights on the market is the Inforce Wild 2. This is the updated version of the Wild 1.
The light is bright, the controls are easy to use, and the mounting system works well.
Battery life is not as good compared to the original but that is always the trade-off when you have a very bright light.
The operation is similar to Surefire and Streamlight. The Wild 2 does have a more streamlined build with softer edges. This will help prevent snagging.

Red Dots
Adding a red dot optic to a pistol used to be sort of taboo. Luckily they are becoming more common and popular.
The same concept applies to a pistol red dot just as it does to a rifle red dot.
They are better for target acquisition and speed.
Red dots are superior to iron sights and night sights because they allow you to focus on the threat/target. Iron sights require that you focus on the front sight and that the rear sight and target should be blurry and out of focus.
When adding a red dot to your Glock you will need to have your factory slide milled in order to mount the optic. I will add more information on this later in the article.
I also believe that this is better than a set of night sights or fiber optic sights.
With that being said, there are a few different red dots that I recommend for the Glock
- Trijicon
- Leupold
- Holosun
- Sig Sauer
- Burris
Trijicon RMR
The most popular, and one of the best pistol red dots is the Trijicon RMR.
There are a bunch of different models of the RMR that come with different features, MOA dot sizes, and colors.
I will make this really simple.
I recommend the 3.25 MOA version with the buttons on the side to adjust the brightness. This is the best version of the RMR.
The color is all personal preference. They offer it in black, FDE, and OD green.
The Trijicon is a great addition to the Glock. If you are looking for a dependable red dot sight for your like then the Trijicon RMR is my number one recommendation.

Trijicon SRO
One of the newer products on the market is the Trijicon SRO red dot. This is similar to the RMR but has a larger field of view.
This is ideal for people with poor vision or astigmatism.
The wider field of view makes it easier for your eye to pick up the dot and you won’t have to be searching when looking through the glass.
Another advantage of the Trijicon SRO is the top-loading battery. It might not seem like that big of a deal but changing the battery without having to remove and resight the optic is great.

Leupold DeltaPoint Pro
Another great red dot for the Glock is the Leupold DeltaPoint Pro. This is the upgraded version of the original DeltaPoint which was very popular. It was also one of the first micro red dots that people would mount on their pistols.
In a way, the Leupold DeltaPoint is responsible for setting the trend of pistol red dots.
This red dot uses motion sensor technology to activate the optic. Once it detects any kind of movement the light will illuminate.

Burris FastFire III
Another good red dot for the Glock is theBurris FastFire III. It is very popular in the gun community and many people swear by it.
It isn’t as expensive as some of the other pistol red dots mentioned early but is still really good.
The Burris FastFire III comes in two different configurations. A larger 8 MOA-sized dot and the smaller 3 MOA-sized dots.
The smaller dot size is better for precision and accuracy. The larger doe size is better for people with poor vision.
These have good build quality and for the price, you can’t beat them.
It is also the least expensive red dot on this list.

DOT SIZE:
- Generally speaking, the 8 MOA dot is most popular for short-range shooters, especially with handguns or shotguns. The larger dot makes target acquisition quicker.
- The 3 MOA dot is most popular with rifles, or anyone wanting more pin-point accuracy, as the smaller dot covers far less of the overall target area.

Glock Slides
In order to properly mount a red dot sight on your Glock, you will need to have a MOS slide or have a cut-out on your slide.
There are a few different options when it comes to this.
The easiest way is to order a MOS Glock slide or any new slide that already has a milled portion ready to accept a red dot or mounting plate.
Another route is to send your slide off to a custom shop and have it milled. This option tends to be very pricey though. A few of the custom shops I recommend, if you want to go this route, are Mod 1, Agency Arms, and Taran Tactical Innovations.
I usually recommend people to just purchase a new slide because it is the most cost-effective.

They make these for almost all models and generations of Glock handguns and offer them in a few different configurations and colors.
These stainless steel slides were designed with tight tolerances to increase accuracy and performance. There are different optic configurations and a variety of coatings for a customized look.

Alpha Shooting Sports Slides
Another great custom slide maker is Alpha Shooting Sports. They make some very impressive upgraded Glock slides.
Attractive diamond-cut checkered rear, front, and top cocking serrations provide a positive gripping surface to aid in firearm manipulation as well as a unique custom look. Left, right, and top window port slide cuts.

Aftermarket Barrels
No Glock build would be complete without adding a better custom Glock barrel. This is the heart of your pistol and this is another area where you shouldn’t go cheap, but instead, look for quality.
when choosing a barrel you should always get one with threads at the end. Even if you don’t plan on adding a suppressor you might want to add a compensator.
Your mindset might also change in the future, so having threads will give you more options in the future.

Barrel Compensators
Adding a barrel compensator tends to be a controversial topic. I am under the belief that anything part or accessory that will reduce recoil and improve the abilities of the platform is worth it.
Therefore, I am in favor and highly recommend adding a muzzle device/compensator on every firearm. Yes, even 9mm pistols.

The Agency Arms 417 Compensator is a thread-on compensator designed for select Glock Gen 4 models. It features a 2 chamber design ( 2 vertical ports and 1 side port on the L & R).
It is designed to work with threaded barrels with a 1/2×28 thread pitch (Overall barrel protrusion should be 0.695″ +/- 0.005″ for optimal fitment).
It features a front sight hole allowing you to transfer your existing front sight from your slide to the compensator.
It is designed to work with most factory-loaded ammunition but will yield the best results with heavier charged ammunition.

Suppressor Height Iron Sights
If you decide to add any kind of optic to a pistol you should add a set of backup iron sights.
Modern red dots are very reliable but having a good ole set of iron is a fail-safe. You want to be extended or suppressor height sights that can still be used in conjunction with an optic.
Some people might think that this isn’t necessary but I disagree. It also completes the look of your Glock.
Also, when it comes to using sights alongside an optic, you really just want a blacked-out set. Having any color or tritium on them will be a distraction with a red dot.
AmeriGlo Tall Glock Sights
The AmeriGlo Tall Glock Sights are the perfect height making them useful without being overly tall.
The sights are very sturdy and easily installed. Simple and effective.
You also don’t need night sights or fiber optic sights when using a red dot.

User Controls
These are the aftermarket user controls that make the operation of the pistol easier and more user-friendly. All of them will help with the operation and increase the dexterity of the shooter.
They are most helpful in extreme environments and weather conditions and while wearing gloves.
Some people would consider these upgrades and accessories the small finishing touches to fully complete your Glock.

Flared Magwell
Many people decide to add a flared magwell to help with faster reloads. Adding one of these still requires training to be able to have quick and efficient reloads so keep that in mind.
If you have large hands a flared magwell may also help with a better and more comfortable grip while shooting.
Agency Arms Magwell
There are a lot of different options when it comes to adding a flared magwell, however, the best one is the Agency Arms Magwell.

Extended Magazines
When buying extra mags or extended magazines I always recommend going with the factory magazines. They usually tend to be the most reliable.
Glock is the exception.
Being that it is such a popular gun, there are a lot of great aftermarket options when it comes to magazines.
Factory Extended Mags
These are the Glock Factory Extended Mags and work great. They will increase the capacity to 33 rounds in 9mm.
I have never had any feeding issues while using them.

Is it necessary? Probably not.
Should you buy one? Absolutely.
