There are some simple modifications that you can do that will turn this gun into the ultimate firearm.
Note: All of the parts mentioned below will work for all variants and clones of the H&K MP5.
What is an MP5?
This gun was developed by German engineers in the 1960s as a 9mm submachine gun. It very quickly became popular and was adopted by many militaries, law enforcement agencies, and special forces around the world.
The MP5 has an insane amount of different variants and clones of the original design of this weapon.
Due to its reliability, compact design, and versatility, the MP5 is still an incredibly popular gun today.
It has also become nostalgic and highly sought after in recent years.
Although there are better more modern options when it comes to this style of firearm, the HK MP5 is still an excellent gun.

What is the SP5?
The SP5 is simply the civilian version of the MP5. It is a semi-auto version that is legal to own for civilians.

SP5 Stock Upgrade
There are a few different options for upgrading the stock that will depend on your personal preference.
Disclaimer! Adding a stock to your firearms may convert it into a short barrel rifle! Make sure you follow and understand all your local laws about adding a stock. In most cases, it is better and easier to add a brace.
With that being said, a collapsible or folding style stock/brace works best for the SP5 keeping the overall firearm compact.
SB Tactical HKPDW
The first upgrade I recommend is the SB Tactical HKPDW Brace. It is a fully collapsible brace.
The HKPDW Pistol Stabilizing Brace is 3-position adjustable and features a pull-through design allowing you to quickly extend the brace without having to depress the lever.
Rugged 6061 hard-coat anodized aluminum adapter with steel rods, the HKPDW provides you with all the advantages of a pistol with improved control by adding a third point of contact for stabilization.

B&T Folding Stock With Adaptor
Another great option for a stock is the B&T Folding Stock With Adaptor. This will give you a longer length of pull compared to some of the collapsible style stocks.
The downside is that the length is fixed, however, most people find the length comfortable.

This brace is similar to a traditional M4/AR-15 style. It will give it that look and feel you are used to from those types of platforms and will feel similar.

Original MP5 A3 Stock
Looking to keep your MP5 original? Then the classic MP5 A3 stock is the way to go.
Fair warning, these are incredibly rare to find and extremely overpriced. I honestly believe the price isn’t worth it.
But to each their own, if you have the money and really want one then that’s your choice.
If you want one that is almost identical but not the original check out the Heckler & Koch SP5 Three-Position Buttstock. It is about half the price.
In my opinion, all that money would be better spent on other MP5 upgrades and accessories. Or even more ammo and magazines.

A3 Tactical Rear Stock Adapter
Additionally, you could always just add the A3 Tactical Rear Stock Adapter.
This will let you add any stock that you would like or one that I didn’t mention in this post.
There are two different versions of this adapter. One with a 2 pin attachment style and another with a Picatinny style attachment.
The A3 Tactical Rear Stock Adapter gives you plenty of options and flexibility when adding stocks to your H&K MP5.

Best MP5 Handguard
One of the best H&K MP5 upgrades and accessories you can do is to swap out the handguard.
This will allow you to add a weapon light or any other accessories and help modernize your MP5.
Surefire Handguard Weapon Light
The absolute best option for a handguard on the H&K MP5 is the Surefire Handguard Weapon Light.
This is about as sexy as it gets when it comes to the best H&K MP5 upgrades and accessories.
It really gives the look and feel of something out of the 1980s and all I can say is that I love it. It is functional and very practical.
Instead of adding a rail then the light separate, this eliminates extra mounting hardware and extra parts keeping your rifle simple and clean.
This is one of those must have upgrades for your gun. This will not let you attach anything else to your rail though.

Midwest Industries MP5 Top Rail
The Midwest Industries MP5 Top Rail is a great item to add to your weapon. It is M-LOK compatible and allows you to attach anything you want.
This rail is lightweight and very strong. It also looks great on your gun.
If you didn’t want to go with the Surefire Handguard Weapon Light then this is the handguard that I recommend.
Midwest Industries makes some of the best rails and handguards in the firearms market.

Magpul SL MP5 Handguard
Another good option for the MP5 is the Magpul SL MP5 Handguard.
This option is lightweight and more comfortable due to being made of polymer. The downside of this one compared to the Midwest Industries one is that it has fewer mounting options and available rail space for attachments.
Also, it isn’t as strong as aluminum but more affordable.
Magpul has been making excellent products for different guns and this one is no exception.
I have also had good results when purchasing anything from Magpul.
With that being said it is still a really good choice to add to your weapon. Just make sure you know exactly what you want to attach before picking one of these up.

Best H&K MP5 Trigger
Now it’s time to get into the fun stuff. Upgrading the trigger on your H&K MP5 is one of the best accessories you can add and will completely change how your firearm shoots.
You have a few different options when it comes to triggers and I will recommend the best option and this is one of those must have upgrades.

Best H&K MP5 Optics
There are many great options when it comes to adding optics. For this gun, I recommend going with a good quality red dot.
Because you most likely have this firearm in 9mm a red dot will work great within close range.
They are fast and give you a quick target acquisition. Here are my favorite three red dots for this weapon and the rail you will need in order to mount them.
Best Optic Rail
To add a red dot to this platform you will need a way to mount it first. The Midwest Industries Top Rail Mount is the perfect choice to solve this issue.
Allows the user to mount an optic and a light or laser while retaining the factory handguard if you choose to.
It is a 1913 Picatinny design that will work with many different red dots.

Trijicon MRO HD
One of the optics I recommend for this gun is the Trijicon MRO HD.
This is the HD version that has been upgraded compared to the original. It is clearing with less of a blue tint and a sharper dot.
Great clarity, large field of view makes tracking the target with both eyes open easy. Other red dots have small FOV making them poor performers.
This optic is battle-ready and built like a tank. It is easy and user-friendly.
The HD has many more features which give the shooter a variety of picks depending on light and shooting conditions.
You’re basically getting an Aimpoint T2 and an EOTech XPS3 in one compact package. However, you are sacrificing half the battery life with the 2.0 MOA reticle compared to the Aimpoint T2.
Overall a great choice for your weapon.

BEST H&K MP5 WEAPON FLASHLIGHT
Target identification in a self-defense situation is very important. That is why every serious defense weapon must be equipped with a good flashlight.
If you did not go with the Surefire Handguard Weapon Light then this is the setup that I recommend.
The best flashlight to accomplish this is the Surefire M600. The next best option is the Surefire ProTac HL.
They both are excellent options.
SUREFIRE M600
This is the preferred setup but it is an expensive setup as well. Adding this flashlight will give you one of the brightest and most user-friendly setups.
I believe the Surefire M600 is the best flashlight on the market and will continue to be for years and years.
They are battle-proven and extremely reliable.
The beam is extremely bright and can be mounted very close to the center of the bore. An optional Tail Cap Tape Switch can be added for a better tactical setup with momentary on and off.
The mount I would suggest going with is the Arisaka Defense Inline Mount. It allows the weapon light to ride very close to the firearm. This will help prevent any snagging while maneuvering the gun.
When adding a tape/pressure switch you will need a way to mount that also. The Cloud Defensive LCS Mount is the best solution for this.
It is low profile and has the ability to route the wire under the mount for good cable management.

STREAMLIGHT PROTAC HL
This light is very good and definitely more affordable than the previous light mentioned. I own a few of the Streamlight ProTac HL flashlights and they have never failed me.
The Streamlight ProTac HL is one of my go-to lights.
This flashlight is insanely bright and reliable. To add this to your handguard you only need to remove the pocket clip that it comes with and add it to a standard 1″ weapon light mount.
This AIM Sports MLOK Mount works great and it is also a 45 degree offset mount. This will give you more options when mounting your flashlight while keeping it close to the center of the bore.
Again, this will keep your setup clean and prevent snagging.

Best Additional Accessories
The rest of the accessories that I will mention are a sling, extra magazines, a grip, and ammunition.
Blue Force Gear Vickers Sling 2 to 1
The Blue Force Gear Vickers Sling is one of my favorite slings and especially for a submachine gun style of firearm.
Especially the 2 to 1 version of it because it lets you carry in a traditional 2 point sling set up or a single-point sling setup. You get the best of both worlds.
It is comfortable and can quickly be adjusted.

Extra Magazines
When it comes to magazines the more the better. These HK MP5 9mm 30rd Mags work great and are reliable.
How many do you need? Personally, I like to have at least six magazines for each of my firearms but that is up to you.

Magpul Industries SL Grip
This Magpul SL Grip is modular and customizable. It allows you to change the grip cores for better ergonomics and personal preference.
Magpul did a really good job with this grip.
It is a high-strength polymer and lightweight while still being of great quality.
