Best PS90 Upgrades & Accessories
Looking for the best PS90 upgrades & accessories? This post will go over all of the “must-have” parts that you should add to this platform.
Whether you just picked up one of these guns and are ready to make it better, or if you have had a PS90 for a while and are finally ready to give it the ultimate upgrade.
In this article, I will provide an overview of the best PS90 upgrades and accessories.
What are the Best PS90 Upgrades & Accessories?
The following are some of the best PS90 upgrades and accessories to add to your rifle for better effectiveness and usability.
Converting into a Short Barrel Rifle
Changing the PS90 into a short barrel rifle is the best upgrade you can do to the rifle. However, not everyone will be able to do this, unfortunately.
It will depend on the state you live in and your local laws.
Some states will allow you to own a short barrel rifle and some will not. If you are lucky enough to live in one of these states then you will need to file a tax stamp with the ATF.
This is a long and slow process. Most people say it takes them 9 months to a year to receive the paperwork and approval back.
Once you get an approval letter then you can swap out the barrel for a shorter one. This is how the original P90 was intended to be set up.
Always make sure you follow all of your local laws and know them. This is your responsibility and you do not want to end up committing a felony by mistake.
So with that being said, when you are approved to SBR this firearm by the ATF you will need a shorter barrel.
CMMG PS90 10.5″ Barrel
If you are looking to SBR your FN PS90 to a P90 look, the CMMG 10.4″ Barrel is the one to get.
The fit and finish are great and this will shorten the overall length. This barrel makes the rifle more maneuverable while still keeping the accuracy.
This barrel would bring the length of the PS90 to roughly 21.3 inches.
A tax stamp is not needed in order to purchase the barrel, but it is needed to install it on your rifle. So you can always purchase it now if you are waiting for your tax stamp to arrive.
Specifications:
- 4140 Chrome Moly
- Grey Salt Bath Nitride Finish
- 1:9 Twist
You will also need to order the CMMG Flash Hider or the Thread Adaptor to finish your SBR project.
Can not install the barrel until the stamp comes back. The barrel will require the CMMG muzzle break or CMMG thread adapter to use a 1/2 x 28 muzzle device or suppressor.

CMMG Thread Adaptor
Once you have the short barrel you will need the CMMG Thread Adaptor. This will allow you to add a suppressor down the road if you choose to go that route.
Again, you will need a separate tax stamp in order to do this. Same process as before with the short barrel.
Allows you to use 1/2″ x 28 RH muzzle devices on your SBR PS90.

PS90 Trigger Upgrade
There are a few different options when it comes to the trigger. The stock trigger is not very good and leaves a lot of room for improvement.
Changing out the trigger for something better will completely change the feel and accuracy of the rifle.
With a few different options out on the market, there is one in particular that I recommend.
Man Kave PS90 Trigger Pack
The Man Kave PS90 Trigger Pack is an easy installation making it a must have upgrade for your PS90.
The PS90 Gen 1 Billet Hammer is first machined from solid billet 7075-T6 Aluminum, then mil 8625 hard coat anodized, and finally Teflon coated to make it as smooth as possible to assist in the smooth function of the trigger assembly.
The hammer is modeled from the Gen 1 hammer and maintains the original Gen 1 sear position. The PS90 Gen 1 Billet allows you to install a higher quality, original design Gen 1 Hammer into your existing trigger pack to replace the cheap plastic hammer with a billet Aluminum PS90 Gen 1 Hammer.
The Benefits of swapping out the original plastic hammer from your trigger pack are three-fold:
- Reduces trigger pull length by over 35%
- Reduces felt trigger weight by over 15%
- Weighs slightly more than its plastic counterpart, allowing each strike of the hammer to impact the firing pin harder, causing harder primer strikes.
The Man Kave PS90 aluminum sear is compatible with any Gen trigger pack and is easy to install. Machined from solid billet 7075-T6 Aluminum and is the perfect compliment to the PS90 Gen 1 Aluminum Hammer upgrade.
The sear is modeled from the FS2000 and works with both the PS90 and the FS2000.
It is pretty low cost when compared to premium trigger packs on other platforms.
Installation takes about 10 minutes and requires only simple tools such as a punch or thin bar to push out the trigger pack pin and needle-nose pliers to install the spring.

Best PS90 Optics
This is where the build starts getting really exciting. Adding a premium optic to this rifle will take it to the next level.
When adding an optic there are a few that I recommend, but first you will need a way to mount the optic.
FN PS90 Optic Rail
The FN PS90 Optic Rail is what you will need to add first before you can put an optic on your bullpup.
This is a 1913 Picatinny rail style that will accept a wide variety of the most popular red dots on the market today. As well as scopes and holographic sights.
The durability is second to none. It will hold zero reliably and is a rock-solid setup.
Installation is simple and easy to do without the need for any special tools. It will sit slightly higher than the factory rail and all the mounting screws and hardware are included.

EOTech HWS EXPS 3
One of the absolute best optics (especially for the PS90) is the EOTech EXPS-3. This is truly a top-tier weapon sight.
If you have been around the firearms community for any amount of time you should have surely heard of EOTech.
They are technically holographic sights and not red dots. The difference is that anyone with astigmatism will prefer a holographic sight compared to a red dot.
The image is cleaner and crisper with less distortion. The -3 version is the newest and best model.
The reticle uses a 68 MOA circle with a 1 MOA single dot in the center. This is ideal for both fast target acquisition and accuracy.
It will work great in both bright daylight conditions and also in low-light environments. This model is even night vision compatible.
The holographic sight is also parallax free and can be used with both eyes open.
Comes with great battery life and an integrated mounting system so you will not have to purchase a mount separately.
The mounting system has a tight lockup and implements a quick detach throw lever for easy installation. This is also nice if you plan on using this optic on multiple rifles.
Here are some of the specs and features.

Aimpoint Micro T2
The next optic on the list is the Aimpoint Micro T2. This is a very small red dot that pairs up perfectly with the compact PS90.
It does everything you want it to do without being unnecessarily large and heavy.
The battery life and reliability of the Aimpoint are absolutely insane!
If you purchase one of these it will last a lifetime.
Aimpoint has long been known for being the best in its class and is used by militaries and law enforcement agencies across the globe.
The low mount is what I recommend for the PS90. It is simple and uses a single mounting bolt. The lockup is very tight and it will not shift.
The red dot itself is a 2 MOA sized dot. It allows you to take shots quickly and with precise accuracy.
If you have been wanting to pick up an Aimpoint for some time and haven’t yet, then now is a good time.

Best Sling for the PS90
When it comes to slings there are really only two different styles that make sense and are functional.
- Two Point Slings
- Single Point Slings
I usually always go with a two-point sling on a rifle because of the practical use case and the comfort.
However with this gun being so compact because of its bullpup design. A single-point sling makes sense also.
For the PS90 it really comes down to personal preference.
Magpul MS4 Sling
For this setup, you can have the best of both worlds with the Magpul MS4 Sling. It is a hybrid sling that can be used in the two-point configuration or the single-point configuration.
It can be transitioned easily between both setups.
This sling has a slider that allows you to make quick adjustments on how tight or loose the sling is.
These adjustments can be made without having to remove the sling either.
After all the different slings and sling setups I have tried, this is by far the best.
You will have to certain sling mounts in order for this to work.

Elite Ammunition Sling Mounts
After countless tries to find the perfect sling setup, the Elite Ammunition Sling Mounts remedy this common problem on the PS90.
They are quick disconnect mounts that work great with the Magpul MS4 Sling.
One will mount in the rear and one in the very front of the weapon.
This mount will allow you to use the QD connection points on the sling and works great in both the single-point and two-point configurations.

Weapon Light
I am a huge proponent of always having a good weapon light with a pressure tape switch for any home defense weapon.
With this particular gun, it is a little tricky to get a good setup because of the proprietary design of the PS90.
After a lot of time and research, I was able to get the perfect setup.
Weapon Light Rail
I knew I wanted a light mounted as far forward as possible and I found the Side Picatinny Rail.
This rail enables me to mount a weapon light on the left side of the firearm without interfering with the magazine of the charging handle.
The rail can be mounted on either the left or right side.
It is a low-profile rail and works perfectly to mount a weapon light.

Surefire M600 Scout Light
My go-to light has always been the Surefire M600 Scout. It is by far the best weapon light to mount on any gun.
It is extremely bright and reliable.
This light can be used in conjunction with the tail cap pressure switch which will give you momentarily on and off.
With this, it will be the ideal setup.

Surefire Pressure Switch
The final piece to this setup is the Surefire Pressure Switch. It replaces the standard tail cap button with a pressure pad.
What I really like about this one is that it still has the constant on and off button, and lets you use the momentary on and off pressure switch.
This is the best of both worlds.
The wire is very durable and has a strong rubber coating. Where to place the pressure switch is a personal preference.
It can be installed by your support had or firing hand and permanently glued in place.

Extra Magazines
One of my favorite things about this gun is the magazine design and the standard 50 round PS90 Mags capacity.
The factory magazines work best in my experience and they aren’t that expensive.
I always try to have at least 6 magazines for each of the firearm’s own.

Extra Ammo
One thing you will always need more of is ammunition.
Unfortunately, 5.7x28mm Ammo has always been slightly expensive but in today’s market, it is at an all-time high and hard to find.
I don’t see the price dropping anytime soon either.
I always tell people and recommend buying a box or two every time you are at a gun store and you will quickly have a decent amount stored up.

What is the PS90?
The PS90 is the civilian “legal to own” version of the FN P90. It has a longer barrel at 16″ and is semi-automatic.
Chambered in the 5.7x28mm round that is essentially a shortened 223 round. This firearm uses a bullpup design and the rounds are fed from the top.
FN Herstal truly makes some marvelous weapons and the PS90 is no exemption.
