P365 vs P365X Differences
If you are not yet familiar with the original P365 I will quickly explain the differences. The P365 changed the concealed carry game years ago with it was introduced.
It was a small compact pistol chambered in 9mm that held 10+1 rounds.
Other companies were forced to innovate their gun designs to compete with the P365.
Glock then came out with the Glock 43x and aftermarket companies made magazines that held 15 rounds and the gun was about the same size as the Glock 43x.
The grip on the Glock is longer and more comfortable, it also doesn’t cause much more printing while carrying.
So Sig updated its design and released the P365X which had a longer pistol grip with an increased capacity to 12 rounds and came with an optics-ready slide cut. The trigger has also been upgraded.
Size & Concealability
The size is concealability are perfect on this gun and I consider it the “sweet spot” as far as size goes.
It’s small enough to carry comfortably all day and the grip is still long enough to get a comfortable grip.
If you have very large hands you will find it small, but for most people, they can get a full comfortable grip.
The XL version has a longer grip and increased capacity.
Capacity
The 9mm P365X holds 12 rounds in the magazine plus one in the chamber. The mags between the XL and the standard use the same magazines.
The capacity is great for a pistol this small.
The X Macro has a 17-round mag but this has a close to full-size grip.
Frame & Slide
These have a steel magazine release button that can be changed to the other side for left-handed shooters.
Normally these don’t come with external manual thumb safeties, but Sig does offer certain state-compliant variations that do have thumb safeties and 10-round mag limits if you are unfortunate to live in one of the more restrictive states.
The slide has front and rear serrations that feel nice.
The XL barrel length is 3.7″ and the standard P365X is 3.1″.
The slide and barrel are stainless steel with a nitride coating and the frame is polymer with slight finger grooves and a forward accessory rail.
Chassis System
One unique design of this pistol is that the firing mechanism is a chassis which is the serialized portion of the gun.
This means you can change frames and slides easily without having to buy a new gun.
Sig makes many different frames for this pistol and overall this design makes it a very modular gun.
Aftermarket companies make some great frames and pistol grip for the P365X as well.
Optics & Sights
The iron sights that come on this gun are great. They are the X-Ray 3 tritium sights with a hi-viz front sight. They are excellent and are very quick to get a sight picture even in low-light environments.
The rear is integrated with the cover plate so if you add a micro red dot optic you will lose your rear sight.
A lot of the micro red dot sights on the market come with a read notch to act as a rear sight if the red dot fails so I recommend this style of MRDS for the P365X.
Here is a quick list of the popular MRDS that will work on the P365X without modification:
- Holosun EPS Carry – (Full Review) – Editor’s Choice 🏅
- Holosun EPS
- Holosun 507K X2 – (Full Review)
- Holosun 407K
- Holosun 507C – (Full Review)
- Shield RMSc
- Shield SMSc
- Sig Romeo Zero – (Full Review)
- Trijicon RMR
- Trijicon SRO
- Vortex Defender
- Swampfox Sentinel
Trigger
The trigger has been updated and feels very smooth. The weight is about 4.5 lbs and is a very nice pull.
The reset is quick and the takeup is soft with a defined wall.
Again the smoothness of this trigger is what stands out the most.
Holster Compatibility
These are very popular pistols and can be found at almost every gun store. You will never have an issue finding a holster for the P365X.
This means a lot of aftermarket support.
Holsters and accessories for the Hellcat are common and can easily be found. So you will have no issues finding a good holster, even if you add an optic or light.
You will never have an issue finding a holster for the Glock 43X or any other Glock.
Most people will carry this inside the waistband and the two holster companies I recommend are Galco and Alien Gear.
Downsides
This is a great pistol with minimal downsides. I don’t recommend getting the Romeo Zero version because I think there are way better pistol optics on the market.
Here is the full review of the Sig Romeo Zero you can see the shortcomings of the optic compared to other options.
Besides that, this is a really well-made gun and great for everyday carry.
My Experience
I am a huge fan of this gun and love the size and balance of the pistol. When I was testing this gun I fired hundreds of rounds through it and fell in love with the grip.
The original P365 was a great gun and I liked it, but Sig listened to feedback and perfected the design.
The grip is just the right length for me and I get a warm and fuzzy knowing I have 13 rounds of 9mm defense rounds.
Recoil is very manageable even for a sub-compact pistol.
The innovation and being able to custom this pistol to your preference is great. But even in the stock configuration the trigger has been upgraded and the sights are awesome.
Overall this is a great pistol and works perfect for concealed carry.
Is It Worth It?
The short answer is yes. The Sig P365X is a great gun and perfect for concealed carry. You will not be disappointed after picking one up.
If you are unsure if it’s right for you I recommend going to the range and renting one first, or shooting a friends if you have any that own this gun already.
Luckily, we have a lot of great options nowadays and there are similar pistols that are good too.
Similar Pistols
The biggest growing sub-niche in the firearms industry is slim line 9mm concealed carry type pistols. A few of the direct competitors to the Sig Sauer P365 and worth checking out are the:
- Glock 43X (Full Review) – Editor’s Choice 🏅
- Ruger Max-9 (Full Review)
- Springfield Hellcat (Full Review)
- Taurus GX4
- M&P Shield Plus
There are way more but those are the most popular. I also recommend going to the range and renting a few of them to see what you like best.
Remember everyone is different and the best gun for someone else might not be the best gun for you or your preferences.
The best thing is to handle and shoot similar guns to get a real feel for the differences, recoil management, controls, and features.
Final Thoughts
The Sig P365X is an overall great pistol and one of the best choices for concealed carry. It is reliable, innovative, concealable, and has an adequate amount of firepower.
Sig Sauer is proud of this gun and the price reflects that but you do get great value for the price.
I highly recommend this gun and I trust my own life with this pistol.
Our Take
This pistol is the updated version of the P365 and Sig listened to their customer‘s feedback. It’s able to be concealed easily and has an impressive capacity. The straight trigger feels great and the P365X is very accurate with minimal recoil. This optics-ready version is a great value for the money.
